Abel VAYA Fly Reel
The Abel VAYA is Abel’s new freshwater/saltwater reel for 2020. The VAYA won Best of Show: Fly Reel Saltwater at the 2019 IFTD show and Fly Fisherman’s Gear Guide Best New Reel for 2020. The reel combines Abel artfulness and intelligent functionality to provide the angler with a fly reel that’s aesthetically pleasing and high-performing. The VAYA features a partially ported frame, a strong disc drag system, and hand-anodizing for a finished product that’s worthy of the industry’s top accolades.
Design
Partially Ported Design - The partially ported design of the VAYA increases rigidity and durability, minimizes weight, and allows enough surface area to highlight Abel’s hand-painted designs. The reel also features a large arbor, 5-disc drag system, and quick-change spool design. The VAYA was designed for trout in freshwater and light saltwater applications like Bonefish and smaller Stripers.
Finish
Hand-Anozied Finish - The finish on the VAYA is made to protect the reel when it’s dropped or dinged. Hand-anodizing is strong and durable for increased reel life and worry-free angling. Many major manufacturers use this finishing because of its lightweight makeup and rigid protection from the elements. This finish also allows Abel to hand-paint all reels, and the VAYA comes in a variety of color schemes.
Materials
Machined Aluminum - The VAYA is built with machined Aluminum, which has a few benefits. Aluminum is both abrasion-resistant and corrosion-resistant. If you happen to drop or ding your reel, machined aluminum resists corrosion even when abraded. This type of aluminum is commonly used in aircraft and boat/automotive construction and contributes to the VAYA’s lightweight, durable construction.

Type - The VAYA is built on a 5-disc alternating drag stack. The drag system of the VAYA is strong enough to stop the largest freshwater Trout and Bass, as well as light saltwater fish like Bonefish.
Materials - The disc drag system of the VAYA is built on alternating carbon/stainless steel discs that dissipate drag pressure and efficiently stop running fish. These discs are highly efficient and extremely durable for performance that lasts a lifetime.
Arbor Size
Large Arbor - The large arbor of the VAYA increases line pickup and helps anglers fight the largest fish in both freshwater and light saltwater scenarios. Most contemporary fly reels are made with a large arbor design to allow anglers to pick up as much line as possible with as little work as possible.
Warranty
Abel Warranty - As of December 2019, Abel products carry a lifetime warranty that covers the repair or replacement of parts due to defects in material or workmanship. This warranty is not transferable and is only valid when an Abel reel is purchased through an authorized dealer. Abel also repairs reels for an additional cost.
