Cortland Liquid Crystal Guide Fly Line
Cortland built this line to load fast-action rods at short distances for improved performance in a variety of tropical fishing scenarios. This is a great line for blind casting and turning over large flies in windy conditions. It's also a great line for novice anglers who will benefit from a line that's easy to cast and extremely forgiving. That being said, the long rear taper makes it more than just a shooting-style line. Welded Loops, High Floating Coating - Cortland has built a few different features into this line to keep it simple and functional on the water. The line is designed to float high in the water with a coating that also improves casting capabilities. Loops at both ends allow anglers to easily attach leaders and backing so you can focus on the fishing instead of the rigging. The line also comes in a seafoam color scheme to blend in on the flats.
Uses
Modern Action Rods, All Species, Quick Shots - The Liquid Crystal Guide is a line that's designed to load rods quickly for easy and efficient casting on the flats. The extended back taper is also great for long-distance casting. This line has great shooting capabilities, too, and can be used to quickly throw long casts to cruising Tarpon or blind fish for Redfish. Cortland has also built minimal line stretch technology into this line which improves hook setting capabilities and increases your chances of success on the water.
Temp
Warm/Tropical - This line's hard tropic coating and monofilament core mean that it's designed for tropical climates. This is a line that won't get sticky in high heat when coiled up on a boat deck or in warm water. That being said, this line will shrivel and won't cast well when used in cold water or colder climates.
Taper/Weight
Aggressive Taper - Cortland markets this line as a 'shooting-style' line but it's a little more versatile than that. With a 3' front taper and a 6' body, it definitely has an aggressive front taper that's capable of shooting line through wind or turning over heavy flies. The back taper is 29', however, which means that this line can also be carried in the air and used to present smaller flies to Bonefish, Permit, and more.
