Humpy Dry Fly

One of the most famous attractor patterns around, and one that won't have you worrying about rough currents, the Humpy Dry Fly is essential whether you're casting to hungry brookies or finicky browns. Invented sometime around the 1930s, the Humpy has proven itself as an effective pattern for decades. Made to float through fast water, the Humpy is tied with a moose tail, elk under floss body, calf hair wing, and is heavily hackled so it can float all day. While the Humpy is tied as a general attractor, it can also imitate large mayflies like Hex's, or even beetles and hoppers if you're in a bind.

The perfect fly for fast-flowing brook trout waters or roaring western rivers, the Humpy benefits from a natural presentation without drag, and is most commonly fished in sizes 12-16 with a yellow body or the "royal" color being most common. A must-have for any dry fly box, the Humpy is a fly that's saved the day for us all.
