Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail Fly
Putting a new spin on a timeless classic, the Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail Fly picks up where Frank Sawyer's original left off. A great first choice when nymphing new water, the Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail has a traditional body of pheasant tail fibers and peacock herl, but is equipped with a CDC collar and bead head, and is tied on a jig hook. With a jig hook style, this fly can bounce off the bottom without concern for snags, and its CDC collar gives subtle movement that attracts fish.
The Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail can be fished as a general attractor pattern just as well as it can imitate insect things like mayfly nymphs, and this is a great fly to choose when fishing fast water that has a rocky bottom or when you need the perfect Euro Nymphing fly. This is an effective fly when fished in a variety of sizes, but if you're stuck on where to start, something between 12-16 is a good choice. Rolling the bottom of a skinny freestone stream or picking at pockets in a slow limestone creek, the Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail gets the job done.
